Townhomes for Sale in Charleston, SC

Townhomes for sale in Charleston, SC range from 1980s and 1990s rows in downtown's Harleston Village to newer three-story garage townhomes on Daniel Island. The building era changes more than the look. It can determine whether you get an elevator, how many stairs separate the garage from the kitchen, and which school district the address falls in.

We can help you compare those differences before you tour and pull the governing documents for any townhome you are serious about.

How Do Downtown and Daniel Island Townhomes Differ?

  • Harleston Place, downtown: This enclave off Lockwood Avenue and Beaufain Street was built in two phases. According to the community's information site, both phases have raised brick foundations with drive-under parking. The mid-1980s townhomes are smaller and have no elevators, while the early-1990s phase includes elevators.
  • Daniel Island: Stanley Martin's Marshes at Daniel Island lists three-story garage townhomes from about 2,380 to 2,730 square feet. The builder lists Berkeley County schools for the community, so school lookups run through Berkeley County rather than Charleston County.
  • Point Hope, Cainhoy: Charleston Housing News reported in July 2026 that Mungo Homes plans attached residences in a new 778-home section. Treat those as a future option, not current inventory.

On a three-story plan with no elevator, walk the route from the garage to the primary bedroom before you compare price per square foot.

Does "Regime" in a Listing Tell You What the Fee Covers?

Not on its own. Under the South Carolina Horizontal Property Act, a regime is created by recording a master deed, and the council of co-owners has to insure the property. The statute does not set the policy's coverage, deductible, or what each owner insures separately.

A fee-simple townhome in an HOA community answers the same questions in its declaration. In both cases, the recorded documents decide who maintains the exterior and who insures the building. Ask for the master deed or declaration, the current budget, and the association's insurance certificate.
